Planner's Report
Being only my second time of planning, I was slightly
disappointed in not having enough time to attend the beginning of the
night, due to work commitments. This meant that the whole of the start of
the planners jobs for the night would be shared by other club members.
Which meant we had a job-share scheme going on.
I didn’t however get out of it completely as I rolled
up at 8 o’clock and was handed a map with “Controls to Collect” on it!
It was kind of spooky out there at first, as a couple
of foxes glared back when I shone my torch on them. Not at all like that
quiet afternoon, a few weeks back, when I was taping the controls. My pace
quickened.
My courses were planned to be fast, and I think the
Navy results reflect this. As this was the longest course I pushed South
to pick up the open bit only to fall back on the wood again for a run
home. A nice contrast between wood-open-wood I think.
Ochre was nice and simple but the mud must have
slowed some down, and Olive a tougher but again proving my predictions
wrong as some flew round.
I definitely would like to see some Night now at the
big week long orienteering events, just making it easier to get to for
me. Perhaps at the Lakes 5 days this year?
